Peabody and Salem Receive a Total of $4M in MassWorks Grants
From left to right: Peabody Mayor Edward Bettencourt, Salem Ward 5 City Councillor Josh Turiel, Senator Joan Lovely, Secretary Greg Bialecki, Salem Mayor Kimberley Driscoll, and Representative Theodore Speliotis.
On October 21st, I joined Housing and Economic Development Secretary Greg Bialecki and local officials to announce $4 million in MassWorks grants for public infrastructure improvements in Peabody and Salem.

In Salem, a $2.5 million award will reconfigure the intersection of Dodge Street and Washington Street and will also support a 190,000 square foot mixed-use development. In Peabody, a $1.5 million award will support new lighting, pedestrian crosswalks, safety features, additional residential units, and new commercial space in Peabody Square.

I would like to thank the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development for making this significant investment, which will advance the North Shore's economy and will help with the revitalization of downtown Peabody and the economic development of Salem.
Pathways Head Start School
On October 2nd I visited the Pathways Head Start School in Beverly. It was great to speak with the staff and to meet the preschoolers! Thanks for the tour!
Danvers Education Watch

Recently, I had the opportunity to appear on Danvers Education Watch (DEW) with Representative Speliotis. Representative Speliotis and I spoke about the actions our offices have taken to try and improve the emergency assistance housing program to help families and the community. This includes filing legislation, proposing budget amendments, meeting with state and local officials, visiting the hotel/motel sites, and acquiring additional funding for the Danvers People to People Food Pantry. I would like to thank the host of DEW, Gayla Bartlett, and Danvers Community Access Television for inviting me on the show to talk about this critically important issue.
Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators Special Forum

In early October, the Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators hosted a special forum featuring female legislators who worked in the State House prior to successfully running for office. I joined Rep. Marjorie Decker of Cambridge, Rep. Danielle Gregoire of Marlborough, and Rep. Liz Malia of Jamaica Plain at the forum and shared my journey to becoming a state Senator. Thank you to the Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators for inviting me to be a part of this great panel!
Massachusetts Municipal Association Legislative Workshop

Throughout the month of October, the Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA) hosted fall legislative meetings in 9 cities and towns across the Commonwealth. On October 10th, I attended the MMA workshop held on the North Shore. The event included a recap of the legislative session and gave municipal officials a chance to discuss fiscal and policy issues that impact their communities.

Topsfield Fair
After participating in the Grand Parade and opening ceremonies of the Topsfield Fair with Representative Brad Hill, I had the opportunity to serve as an honorary judge of the fair's Youth Cattle Show!

North Shore Elder Services

This past month I visited North Shore Elder Services to tour their new facility in Danvers. The new space will surely help North Shore Elder services carry out its mission of providing information, resources, and support for older adults in our region. In addition to a tour, I had the opportunity to learn more about the latest initiatives for seniors on the North Shore and to hear about the issues that matter most to older adults in our community.
North Shore Housing Executive Directors Association's
Annual Legislative Workshop

On October 15th the North Shore Housing Executive Directors Association (NSHEDA) hosted its annual legislative workshop. NSHEDA is comprised of 58 local housing authorities and over 43,000 housing units. The event included several speakers and a discussion on public housing programs and their impact on our local communities. Additionally, the workshop gave local housing authority board members and administrators a chance to share their priorities with their legislators.
